A Protrait of the Artist as a Rhesus Space Monkey
In 1986 I escaped from the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. I used many identities to conceal my true nature.
As a boy I was Indiana Jones and Batman.
As a teenager I was James Bond. My interest shifted toward literary heroes when I discovered ‘The Counte of Monte Cristo.’
As a college student I was Ernest Hemingway, Graham Greene, and John Le Carre.
As a graduate I was Jorge Luis Borges, Joseph Conrad, Umberto Eco, and Raymond Chandler (and, why not, a little of Mike Mignola’s ‘Hellboy’).
Today I woke up as a Rhesus Space Monkey. Tonight is the launch. They say I’m a guinea pig, but I know what I am. I am a Rhesus Space Monkey.
Tomorrow I hope to join my heroes.
